Last night...

...thinking about last night
Last night
Thinking about last night
-Traveling Wilburys, "Last Night"

All's well from the CICU. Jay was still a little "jumpy" last night when we finally went to the sleep room around midnight. He's on a few different meds to help him sleep & relieve pain, but the main one he was on (isoflurane) was a gas thru the ECMO circuit, so he can't get it anymore. Apparently some kids coming off iso get the shakes, and the poor baby has been shaking like a leaf. And it's breaking my heart.

It's funny what I can handle and what undoes me. Giant tubes of blood coming out his neck, running through a machine and back into his neck again? No biggie. Seeing a ventilator breathing for him? Eh, that's life in a hospital. The burn mark on his chest from where they shocked him during CPR? Makes me sick on my stomach. The sound of them suctioning spit out of his mouth? Sent me running from the room.

Jay's blood pressure did drop a bit during the night, and his temp did rise a bit as well. But they upped the medications a bit and gave him some Tylenol to bring the fever back down. And he seems to be settling back into a restful groove. I don't plan to really relax again. Ever. But I'm not planning to breathe until we're past the first 24 hours. He's still a very sick little boy.

You are constantly in my prayers and thoughts, even though I don't know you, I feel you in my heart...

I'm thankful that his fever is responding to the tylenol and that he's settling into another groove of rest. (I hope you and D were able to get just a little bit). In thinking of the 24 hours, you're at least half way there.

We're thinking of you all and praying all will be well.

Wow! Feeling so thankful for the progress he has made and just in awe of the Mommy strength you have maintained during all of this. All of you are doing an amazing job. We are, of course, still praying for God's constant healing hands on Jay's heart as well as comfort for you and Derek.

With Love,
Blair & Jeremiah

Lots of prayers coming your way (and Jay's way too, of course!). You have all been very, very brave and I'm glad that things are at a calm(er) state relatively.

'Put me in Coach,
I'm ready to play today'
Day 1 ECMOless
Hi Toolboy!
Day 1 ECMO less...
Jay, you have great parents, and will always be with you. Your Mom has it right...the machines, the livegiving appendages, well are the tools you need now. But, seeing the results of the tools, well it hurts, that is what Moms, Dads, & family knows and shares. You know Jay, you have been a great inspirition to all the Christian friends you have, and know of you because of your Mom Jen, Dad Derrick, LaLa &.... When you think you can't do more, well, I know your Christian pals have made it easier for you to ask for a little help.
See you soon, Jay, you are the Tool Boy!!
a&u for all your FPC praying pals!

Jenn AND DEREK, When the time is right I will share some things that our own Libby Barnes shared that I remember often about US, God, our feelings and life... But for now you continue doing what you're doing and we'll keep doing what we're doing (prayer is a great thing)...

Again Fistbump and hugs from Dillon and the Tyndalls to young Master Jay.

We're so glad to get your updates and check once or twice each day. You are wonderful, caring (and probably very tired!) parents, and we pray for you two and Luke as well as for Jay.
